Congratulations to Couples International for their effort to become the first legal swingers club in Queensland. Brisbane City Council have approved their development application paving the way to legitimise the swinger's lifestyle choice.
The Gold Coast is now in a prime position to use CI's DA approval by BCC as an example to further the cause of swingers both locally and elsewhere in Australia. The X-Club first attempted to gain legitimate status in 2007 after 10 successful years operating as an underground club. The business development application was thwarted by a combination of complaints from 'local' residents followed by a course of actions undertaken by GCCC. Most objections to X-Club's DA were on moral grounds and during the DA process, GCCC amended the local business act to exclude swinges clubs from operating in a commercial business zone. The Moral Majority Local media were quick to pick up on the story and quickly managed to create an explosive issue involving a prominent Gold Coast Councillor. State government and local councils will eventually have to realise that swingers clubs are a legitimate business and have a place in our society. Sex Shops, Brothels and Nightclubs are all legitimate business options in Queensland and all have unending legal, moral and ethical issues surrounding their locations and trading hours. Council's "NO" to Maryborough Swingers Club Swingers want their clubs to be safe, accessible and private. Prostitution, Alcohol and under-age drinking are not issues within the club scene. Patronage and membership is targeted directly towards couples over 21. Greg and Jaqi
