Online dating is a wonderful way to meet couples, men and women. The internet boasts tens of thousands of hook-ups, affairs and marriages and has millions of people connecting around the world daily. 

The internet has become the norm when it comes to 21st century dating, singles online still wonder if they need to take any precautions with it comes to meeting men and women online.

This said, a number of sites are designed to generate revenue for the site owner without having to provide any type of service. Worse still is the fact that you have handed over part or all of your identity, creating a future problem starting with email spam.

Many of these sites hide their true intent by using affiliate programs to "bait and switch" while others just take your money / identity and run.

Another trap are [fraudulent?] sites with similar domain names to legitimate sites. These sites are "mocked" to look like a "child" or "clone" of the original site. Australian sites used to have a high degree of protection with exclusive access to Australian domain names (.com.au amd .net.au) but this law is very hard to police with the shear number of sites and the high degree of organisation involved.

The success of The X-Club as a legitimate swingers club and adult dating directory made it vunerable to attack and has been a victim.
